FF1 beaten (again)

Don't SOFT potions only work out of battle, though? (Then again, maybe so does the spell. I forget.) I was also going to bring up ARUB but then I looked it up and it's a 7th level spell, way too late in the game for you to use it against Astos or the Eye. Those guys are always my roughest fights: the auto-death spells are massively annoying in a game where you can't revive people in battle.
However, I will definitely quibble with your lack of a Thief, because Ninjas are awesome. Their attack is just as good as a Knight's with a katana equipped, and there's places his extra spell slots come in handy -- a second LIT2 backing up your Reddy in the underwater dungeon, for instance. They're the ultimate growth-prestige class. (edit: or having another guy casting FAST, so that both of your Knights are speedy out of the first round. Best buff in the game.)
Is there a patch out there for the Japanese version of the game that makes it English but without adding all the glitches that were in the NES version? I'd be interested in playing the game with the elemental swords working properly against the right enemies and Black Belts not becoming horrendously overpowered.Edited at 2012-03-23 06:47 pm (UTC)
I'm pretty sure the Japanese version had all the bugs too. You might be thinking of the MSX version, which was only in Japanese and did fix many bugs (I don't know if the elemental swords work better though), but I was playing the Famicom version. I don't know if a translation patch exists for it. Probably not much demand for it since we also have Origins and Dawn of Souls.
I don't like those newfangled ones tho, I want that OLDSCHOOL CHARM when I play Final Fantasy. I threw away the DS version of FF4 because it wouldn't let me rename my characters, even.
Threw it away? You could have given it to me. :P
well by "threw away" I mean "took it out of my 3ds and put Chrono Trigger back in" but if you want it I'll mail it to you!
Nah, you can probably find somebody who'd appreciate it better than I could.
